Overview of our Childhood Screening Program

KidScreen is a hearing, vision, speech/language, and developmental screening program offered by the Marion Downs Center. Our mission is to promote early identification and intervention of communication and learning problems. These screenings determine if a child's developmental, academic and learning skills are on target for their age, or if there is a need for further evaluation and/or intervention.

History of our Childhood Screening Program

For over thirty years, KidScreen has screened thousands of children at childcare centers, preschools, Early Head Start and Head Start sites, charter schools, and private K-8 schools. By detecting any sensory or learning deficits early, the path of a disadvantaged child can shift to a child eager to learn, reaching their highest academic potential. Treatment of any of these problems can support growth and development in learning, literacy, social skills, and behavior.

Why is early childhood screening important?

Research has proven that early detection is critical. Difficulties in hearing, vision, speech, or language in early childhood results in reduced growth and development in learning, literacy, and behavior. Plus, most doctors' offices do not offer comprehensive screenings at well child checkups. Furthermore, these screenings are not routinely available to all children through their childcare sites or schools. We screen to ensure your children are supported in their early childhood development.
