Why Music Professionals Trust Us

Our audiologists bring both clinical expertise and real-world experience as longtime musicians, helping bridge the gap between audiology and the way musicians actually hear on stage and in the studio, so they build around how you actually listen.

We know musicians and audio professionals have different listening needs than the general public. You need clarity, comfort, communication, timing, pitch, and reliable protection. You also need guidance from someone who understands that the goal is not just to make sound quieter. The goal is the make sound safer while preserving the information you need to perform and work well.

At Marion Downs Center, your solution is fit by audiologists who understand hearing conservation, ear anatomy, sound exposure, and the practical demands of live and recorded music.

Custom In-Ear Monitors and Ear Plug Services

Custom In-Ear Monitors
Fully custom in-ear monitors are designed to fit the shape of your ears and deliver your monitor mix directly through earpieces made for you. For many musicians, in-ear monitors can improve clarity and reduce the need for excessive stage volume. This can be especially helpful for vocalists who are competing with drums, amplifiers, floor wedges, and loud stage environments. A secure custom fit can also improve comfort, reduce distraction, and help the earpieces stay in place while you perform. Because the fit, seal, and counseling matter, Marion Downs Center approaches custom in-ear monitors as both a hearing health service and a performance-support tool.
Ambient Mic In-Ear Monitors
Some musicians want the clarity and isolation of in-ear monitors but still need controlled awareness of the room, band, audience, or conductor. Ambient microphone in-ear monitor systems are designed with this in mind. These systems combine custom-fit monitoring with built-in environmental microphones or ambient sound features. The goal is to help musicians balance monitor clarity with connection to the performance environment. This can be especially useful for performers who dislike feeling too isolated, need to hear acoustic cues, or want more control over how much outside sound enters the listening experience.
Custom Sleeves for In-Ear Monitors
If you already own universal-fit in-ear monitors, custom sleeves or custom tips may help improve the fit without replacing your entire monitor system. These sleeves are made from in ear impressions and are designed to attach to compatible in-ear monitors. A better seal can improve comfort, retention, and consistency. It may help the monitors sound more predictable from one use to the next because small changes in depth and seal can affect bass response, clarity, and perceived loudness.
Filtered Earplugs
Filtered musician earplugs are designed to reduce sound while preserving more natural clarity than non custom earplugs. They can help lower exposure during performances without making music sound overly muffled. Custom filtered silicone earplugs can improve comfort, consistency, sound quality and retention compared with many over-the-counter options. These are often a strong first step for musicians who want to still hear pitch, tone, speech, and timing while protecting their hearing.

Not sure whether you need filtered earplugs, custom in-ear monitors, custom sleeves, or a hearing test? We can help you choose!
