Building Connections: May – Better Speech and Hearing Month

In 1927 the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association created Better Speech and Hearing Month to create awareness about hearing health and communication disorders.

This year’s theme is “building connections.” The Marion Downs Center remains committed to supporting our patients and the community in regards to hearing health and communication.

Monitor Your Hearing Health

In older adults, only 1 out of 5 people with hearing loss get the help that would benefit them. Signs of hearing loss include difficulty hearing in noisy environments, increasing the volume more often, & speaking louder than normal.

People with mild hearing loss could unintentionally make their hearing loss worse by turning up the volume. There are strategies and technologies available to protect people’s hearing.

The Marion Downs Center has a Hearing Conservation program that includes mobile testing, consultations, and custom hearing protection fittings. We encourage you to get your hearing checked on an annual basis to monitor for any potential changes!

Building Speech, Language, and Communication

Is your child not talking as often or as well as others their age? Schedule a screening to help them build connections.

Have you experienced a stroke, accident, or frequent memory loss? See a speech therapist to stay connected with your family members and friends.

The Marion Downs Center can help you or your child build and maintain connections through speech and language.
